The Extended Base has a 6" upright square tube, which raises the Gun-Ready and places the Butt Stock of your gun about 8" above the floor of your Pit.  This will allow for water clearance should your pit leak or takes on rain water.  This gives some forgiveness before needing to pump out your pit.
